UniTube: Retirement of Service

The Higher Education Development Centre created UniTube, and have been providing software updates and bug fixes. However, HEDC is no longer in a position to provide service updates, and as such, UniTube will not be supported beyond mid-2018 (we have extended the date to allow people to find alternate hosting services). While you can continue to use UniTube, you may wish to consider using another media hosting service, such as Podcasting (http://www.otago.ac.nz/podcasts) or Otago Capture (http://www.otago.ac.nz/capture), and if your media is public, YouTube (http://www.youtube.com). If you need assistance to select an alternative hosing service, please contact the IT Service Desk.

Workshop by Caroline Yoon

The LEMMA series is a collection of metamathematical activities that invite students to use mathematical concepts flexibly and productively in contexts within and beyond the mathematics classroom. This workshop presents LEMMA resources for experiencing some puzzling and amazing mathematical relationships in calculus.  http://www.nzcer.org.nz/tests/lemma-series

Plenary talk by Caroline Yoon

Mathematical modelling cycles and their relevance to the so-called "real world"

Mathematical models are inherently imprecise - wrong even. They intentionally ignore some features of the real world they are trying to describe. Their value lies in their utility; their utility lies in their approximation of reality. This is both liberating and terrifying! We will explore how the imprecision of modelling can yield interesting and useful solutions to questions that teenagers might care about… like How to find the perfect romantic partner?
